That's me, yes I am alive and no, I don't update this enough! I'll have more entries coming now that I've settled into being back home, having my internship and waitressing on the weekends. In the meantime, check out my sweet head injury.

Haha, fainted at a friend's BBQ and hit my head Sunday night. 3 am ER visits, got 3 stitches and now I look pretty badass. When people ask me what I did, I want to have a better story then "I fainted and hit my head on cement" so I'm considering:

-shark attack
-got in the middle of a hobo deathmatch
-fought a hooker and the wound is from her stiletto

At some point while lying in a hospital bed in the ER waiting to get stitches, I had my friend go get my phone so I could twitter. THIS IS HOW I DO.

Hey guys, pulling an all-nighter tonight at Bobst so I figured I should come and update. Because I'm procrastinating. And because I love this livejournal, but neglect it like an unwanted step-child and that makes me feel BAD. Please know I read all of your journals and I'm constantly on LJ everyday even if I'm not updating!

TV: I watch MORE THAN EVER AHHH. And it never ends. I haven't left the old standbys (Lost, Heroes, The Office, 30 Rock, etc.), but have picked up a few new ones along the way. By far, my favorite new show is Party Down on Starz. I KNOW. Starz, who'd have thought? But the Veronica Mars lover in me can't help but love Vinnie VanLowe and Dick Casablancas. Plus the lead guy who is cute and guest starred as a teacher who slept with a student on VM once. It's really hilarious and you should all try out an ep or two. HIMYM IS STILL AWESOME AND GETTING AWESOMER BY THE WEEK, BUT YOU SHOULD ALL KNOW THAT.

Intern: Next week is my last week at Bravo and that makes me so upset. I can't believe this semester has gone by so fast! I've loved everything about it, from my fellow interns to getting to work in 30 Rock to seeing how a big TV network really works. I'm going to miss it a lot! But I'm sticking with NBC-Universal this summer because I got an internship at Oxygen! So I'll get to commute into the city a couple days a week and help out there. Bravo is like Oxygen's gay older brother so I'm sure I'll use everything I've learned there. My NBC-Uni loyalty runs deep, you know.

School: 2 and half weeks left and then summer, oh god. That means epic amounts of finals and papers for me right now. Mostly finals. If you've skipped everything else in this entry, just read this next part because it's educational and pretty cool. In my Cognitive Neuroscience class, we were learning about the chapter on motor control and all the neural substrates in the brain that respond to action and action planning, wait don't fall asleep, it gets better! Basically, scientists were able to map which exact neurons controlled certain movements and used this knowledge to do the only logical thing. Hook up some of those neurons (in monkeys) to a machine and see if the monkey could learn to move the machine JUST BY THINKING ABOUT IT. And yeah, it did.

That monkey is moving the machine arm to feed itself marshmallows using just its thoughts. I usually feel bad for the monkeys they use in all these neuroscientific studies, but come on. Is that monkey going to get delicious marshmallows in the wild? I doubt it.

They've even advanced so far as to demonstrate this same ability in people. Namely, individuals who have been paralyzed completely (if you saw the episode of House 2 weeks ago called Locked In, this is basically what it was). A man with Lou Gherig's disease had deteriorated so profoundly that all he has is the ability to blink. But through SCIENCE he was able to hook up his neurons to a computer and he can generate speech on a computer by choosing letters on the screen WITH HIS MIND. HIS MIND. They're saying that eventually when the technology advances enough, we'll be able to use it to wire amputees' brains to their prosthetic limbs so they can control it like they would a normal limb.

Of course this is all really interesting and most of it is far beyond my range of comprehension so when people were speculating if this could lead to human-computer hybrids, all I could think of was this:

"What do you expect, mother? I'm half-machine! I'm a monster!"

How great does this look? October seems so far away! I've been getting so excited with all the promo pictures that have been coming out and the trailer really doesn't disappoint. I love that the monsters are all actually there, even though most people probably would've wanted to computer animate them. I'm think the fact that Max is actually interacting with them and not, you know, a puppet or a stick with a monster face taped onto it will make a big difference.

Let me tell you about how much I love my Human Origins class. Besides the fact that our professor came in today wearing a shirt that said "Intelligent Design Is Neither", besides the fact that he uses The Daily Show clips to supplement his lectures, besides the fact that he's snarky and has a mohawk and says things like "Cats are like marshmallows to coyotes."

Even if all these things weren't true and he was just a run of the mill dude, he would still be the most awesome professor because of our lecture today. Today's lecture was on theories of evolution and how they've changed over the years.

He was very thorough. Thorough enough to include Pastafarians and the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. This was actually one of his slides in class:

Went home this weekend- hung out with the fam and all the cats, caught up on Lost, watched many, many episodes of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations because I want to travel the world with him even if he would just berate me and I would come back with a shot liver and a chain-smoker, I WOULD BE OK WITH THAT.

So I have this secret/not-so-secret loathing for the Facebook 25 Things meme that has been spreading like an epidemic of Killer Nano-Robot Infection. Maybe it's just the people I have added on FB, but most of them read as narcissistic pieces of nonsense. Combine that with the oversharing, the obvious attempts to come off really unique and edgy and really, the fact that no one cares (fact 1 about myself: Sometimes I decide that I get to speak for the entire population of earth). Here's the thing...If you want to talk about yourself at length, maybe you should just GET A BLOG LIKE THE REST OF US.

Anyway, I've compiled some of my favorite ones to demonstrate the range of facts my peers and associates have decided fit into the Top 25 facts about their entire being and 20+ years of life.

2. I was born with a black eye. Rough delivery. Which may explain why I have a pretty high pain threshold now.

So thanks to my favorite blog, Jezebel, I was exposed to the documentary Married to the Eiffel Tower about a group of people called objectum sexuals. From Jezebel:

I can't get over this tape of Senor Bale unleashing a tidal waves of furyyy over some poor cinematographer on the set of his film. Dude needs to take some yoga classes or head to the firing range to get out some of that pent-up aggression. I mean, sure, he had those pesky abuse allegations and everyone made fun of his Batman voice and he was completely upstaged by Heath Ledger, but damn.

While I was in Amsterdam, we had these cookies called Stroopwafels and they changed my life. They are buttery wafer cookies with a layer of either caramel or some other kind of syrup in the middle. When you put them over a cup of tea or coffee, the heat makes them all soft and melty and omg. When I got back to America I was convinced I would never experience such deliciousness again and then the internets and the Serious Eats blog told me that they sell them at Whole Foods. Which I happen to live down the street from. The rest is history and so is that box of 8 cookies that I bought last week.

It's only a matter of time before I start dancing on tables to support my Stroopwafel addiction.

The pictures continue! Because the weather is so godawful that it's made me miserable and this will keep me busy. Seriously, slushy wet rainy weather in the city when you have to walk 15 minutes to class is the worst.

Our first stop when we got there was to get some weinerschnitzel.

Hey kids, I'm currently sitting in my cubicle in the Bravo office...Well, maybe "my" cubicle is a little too much. So I'm currently sitting in the generic intern cubicle in the Bravo office. And after being here for only 3 hours today, I have nothing to do at the moment so I'm going to write about TV here instead. I had managed to get my hands on a couple pilots for some new TV shows that'll be coming out soon from a friend. Where she got them, I'm not really sure, but when someone hands me tv shows to watch, I generally don't ask questions. The three she gave me were Cupid, a remake Rob Thomas is doing of his own show that was on back in the 90s, The Unusuals and Castle. I liked 2/3 of them. AREN'T YOU EXCITED TO FIND OUT WHICH? I would be.

Hmm, I just realized all of these shows are going to be on ABC.

Not really sure why they're dressed like middle schoolers or why it looks like they're 4 feet tall. Photoshop fail.

So let's start with Cupid because for me, it's marginally more fun to be mean and critical of TV shows than to gush about how much I like them. And I liked Cupid so little, that this review will be very very fun for me. First of all, yes, I watched the original Cupid because, ok, I really like Ari Gold and I was eager to see if Jeremy Piven is always so awesome. Fact: He is. And I loved the original Cupid; it was cute and The Piv did not disappoint. He can play a jackass with a heart of gold like no one else can. Are you listening, Bobby Cannavale? Also, the woman who plays Paula has such an awful blonde dye-job that it's really hard to focus on the neverending stream of lame advice that comes out of her mouth.

But really,the main reason I hated the pilot of this was the Lovesick Dude of the Day who the episode features. He was tall, cute, had a sexy accent (he came to America from Ireland on a search to find a girl he met there), wrote songs for girls and played them on an acoustic guitar (really?), serenaded a girl on a rooftop accompanied by a three-piece band (and his acoustic guitar of course) and took the girl on a kitschy date to Coney Island where the frolicked and rode the ferris wheel. I mean, come onnn. I realize that they're obviously frantic to woo the 18-25 year old single female demographic, but really, when we're pandered to like that, it's just embarrassing for everyone involved. What a hopeless cliche.

It was boring and endlessly predictable, so I doubt I'll watch the rest of the season. If I want to watch Cupid, I'll just watch the original which was much wittier and enjoyable. AND JEREMY PIVEN.

Not going to lie, when I thought of watching another comedic crime procedural, I thought "Mehhh..." Especially because Bones has left me so damaged from becoming a boring, travesty of a show. BUT THEN I learned that Castle was going to be played by Nathan Fillion and I changed my mind. And as I was watching the show, I then thought to myself, "Between Dr. House, Shawn Spencer, Patrick Jane, etc., do I really have more room in my heart for another smug, smirking dude who uses extreme, unconventional means but in the end is always proved right ALWAYS?" And for Nathan Fillion, it appears that I do because I thought this show had real potential. SHOCKER: I think they're going to set up some really exciting sexual tension between Castle and the hardened, but sexy, female detective that he works with and then throw in some heavy flirting and maybe even a kiss around sweeps. I know! These people are mavericks.

But it was fun, Castle has a great dynamic with his family and I think he knows that he's a jerk who enjoys pushing people's buttons. You know, it's the kind of charm that made me really like Captain Hammer. I'll keep watching and see how it goes.

Hey everyone, I hope you guys all had a great Thanksgiving. This was the first Thanksgiving I've ever spent away from my family and it was so strange. I wasn't even with my friends because I last minute decided that I needed to go to Paris before I went home, so I just took off by myself on Wednesday and Thursday. Paris is so pretty and quaint and houses so many delicious things. Also, when I went to see the Eiffel Tower at night, I was all "Hey this is pretty" and then all of a sudden it just started sparkling like crazy! I was so caught off guard but apparently people know this and try to see it and it happens every hour. Sometimes I don't know things.

Check it, this bitch was like Edward Cullen in the sunlight.

Right when I got off the Eurostar here yesterday, I went straight to the library and stayed there for 7 hours working on a paper and went back today for a couple hours. Believe me when I say I will thoroughly enjoy going out and being reckless tonight. Trust.
